About Us
The Cardiff Health Alliance was established in response to the Government's policy for improving health and reducing inequalities in health status as set out in the Better Health: Better Wales.
This framework supported the development of a Local Health Alliance in each local authority area of Wales to bring together agencies across sectors to protect and improve health. Each Health Alliance was to be a partnership of agencies tasked to improve the health of people by jointly addressing the determinants that impact on people's health.
The Cardiff Health Alliance was launched in February 2000 with the aim of improving the health and well being of the citizens of Cardiff and reducing health inequalities that exist within the City.
The Alliance works to:
- Gain a wider understanding of how health gain can be achieved
- Promote joint working across health, social care and voluntary sector services
- Ensure better co-ordination between local health and environment services
- Increase local capacity and abilities in public health skills
- Develop local health promotion
- Facilitate a network for sharing information
- Support communities in action to improve health, living conditions and life chances.
Facilitate a network for sharing information leading to health gain and better access to services:
- Support communities in action to improve health, living conditions and life chances
- Promote better co-ordination and joint working between health services, local government and voluntary organisations
- Develop local health promotion in conjunction with local health promotion specialists
- Obtain a wider understanding of how the determinants of health gain and well being can be influenced
- Identify and act upon local health inequalities
- Identify sources of funding to support its action plans.
