Key Facts about Cardiff Health Alliance
The Cardiff Health Alliance is the key strategic partnership for health and well being in Cardiff, with local authority, health service and voluntary sector membership and is facilitated by Cardiff Council.
The Alliance has a key role in influencing the determinants of health by focusing action to improve the social, environmental and economic factors, which contribute to health and health gain.
The Alliance works towards:
- gaining a wider understanding of how health gain can be achieved.
- promoting joint working across health, social case and voluntary sector services.
- ensuring better co-ordination between services.
- increasing local capacity and abilities in public health skills.
- developing local health promotion.
- facilitation of a network for sharing information.
- and supporting communities to improve health, living conditions and life chances
The Cardiff Health Alliance Board provides the direction and overview of the work of the Health Alliance, influenced by the wider stakeholders, i.e. all those individuals and agencies who can influence their own health and that of local communities in Cardiff.
From 2003 the Cardiff Health Alliance has provided the strategic health partnership lead to develop, implement and monitor the Health, Social Care and Well Being Strategy for Cardiff.
The Cardiff Health Alliance is facilitated by the Health Partnership Team within Cardiff Council.

Health and Wellbeing
The Cardiff Health Alliance have established a number of Health and Well Being Task Groups, each consisting of representatives from key organisations spanning the local authority, health service and the voluntary sector. The Task Groups report to the Health and Well Being Partnership Group which monitors their progress and provides strategic direction.
Health Challenge Cardiff is a local campaign building on the national Health Challenge Wales concept. The aim is to help and encourage individuals to make positive changes to their lifestyle. The Health Challenge Cardiff Group is a partnership approach to ensuring that the Health Challenge Cardiff is developed, implemented and monitored in line with agreed objectives and following the Welsh Assembly Government guidelines.
Health and Social Care
The Cardiff Health Alliance has a number of Health and Social Care Advisory Planning Groups (APGs), consisting of representatives from key organisations spanning the local authority, health service and the voluntary sector. The Advisory Planning Groups are responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the strategic objectives contained within their HSCWB strategy strand. The Advisory Planning Groups are accountable to the Strategic Commissioning Group which monitors their progress and provides strategic direction.
